Artist's Comments

...the genre of western-themed illustrations seems to be somewhat neglected here on DA, and having recently begun studying Cowboy Music and it's very unique approach on the guitar (this is as opposed to Country-Western, mind you...), I offer this drawing as a companion to the beautiful song from which I took the title. Cowboy Music is about boots and saddles, prairies and sunsets over the desert, and often presents such beautiful melody and lyric, especially in the ballads, and thus inspired I drew this little tribute to the Old West ....

" I love to lie and listen to the music
When the wind is strumming a sagebrush guitar,
When over yonder hill the moon is climbin'
It always finds me wishin' on a star...."

Indeed!!!

:w00t: first comment! :D

This picture is so well done! I love the shading and detail that you put into this piece! I love the expression on the horse's face as if he is tired of carrying the guy sitting on his back >.> I cannot really draw landscapes that well, so your skills in that far exceed mine :D  A very lovely piece :deviation:

Damn that horse anatomy is so spot on, so amazing. You know what I really like a lot? No its not the horse, the cowboy, the mountains. Of course all of those aspects of this fantastic illustration are absolutely stunning. No, what I really, really, like a lot are those stones/boulders, in the foreground of this picture. The attention to detail you created in that is incredible. I love the small vegetation you placed around the stone too.

More drawings. I love everything that you post.

I think that 'Old West' is actually one of the first really popular styles/romantic periods that America could offer. Prairie and Frontier had a certain interest among the world but 'Old West' set both tone and style that worldwide people could be captivated by.

So nice dedication to a now overlooked era.

...yes, yes, I think the Cowboy culture is very distinctly American. I think I read somewhere that the era of the "Old West", the cowboys, only lasted a very short time (less than a decade), and also that most citizens of Dodge City (or wherever..) couldn't really afford guns and pistols---so the westerns that you see in movies and tv aren't really accurate, everyone in the saloon packin' a pair of 44s....---didn't happen...

...THANKS for droppin' by!!!
