Dragon's Lair by Ricky-Roo302 Dragon's Lair by Ricky-Roo302
This was done with pastels. If you've never tried pastel chalk, you should give it a try. it's an easy medium to work in.

It's nice to settle in after a hard day terrorizing the countryside. Home Sweet Home.......

It reminds me a little of the night on bald mountain segment in fantasia

....oh yes! That movie made a HUGE impression on me when I was a kid, both in terms of giving me a colorful introduction to classical music and in showing me that animation can be a true Art Form and not simply Saturday morning kid's stuff...
...I remember the Night on Bald Mountain sequence especially, with that amazing dragon and all, and of course The Sorcerer's Apprentice segment remains a masterpiece of classical music interpretation....
Thanks for that Fave!!!

I like working with pastel chalk. I prefer their blending method to other ones.

....I quite agree; most of the colored efforts in my own Gallery are pastel/colored pencil, very user-friendly mediums. (Occasionally my Daughter will digitally color a cartoon for me...)

Wonderful! I'm working with oil patels, but they have pastel chalk available. Do you know how to make it so theirs no little white speckles after you smear the pastel? My picture is rittled with tiny white dots that make the overal picture terrible.

....Yeah, I tried working with oil pastels at one time:---hated 'em, tossed 'em. The chalk, however, practically blend themselves.
Regarding the little white dots---if your using oil pastels, I don't think I can help you; but with chalk, a paper blending stump or even kleenex tissue will get rid of those dots. Those little white specs are also an issue when using crayola crayons, but your Blue Wolf came out SPECTACULAR!!! (...not to get all mushy here, but I'll say again: that is one FINE piece of art, Halfdemondog.)

Thank you! And yea.. I tried that kleenex thing, but it doesn't work. I also tried my finger, and it also failed. The only thing that really works for me is just putting a little more pastel on it. It's slowly getting rid of it. sloooowly. Btw, I'm thinking of doing another crayola wolf, since it seemed so popular. I have a reference already, and the same 7 crayons I used for the Crayola Wolf, so I'm pretty much set. XD Oh, and thank you so much for the critique and long comments, I really enjoy it!

The blending in this is insane! I never knew that such hues come from pastel chalk!

Love this picture. I really like how the dragon was done and how he sort of blends into the background except for his head and claws.

Thanks, I like the name too. I'm glad you think I'm a good artist, but I'm not so good as a majority on this site. You live in Kodiak, right? My brother was born there.
