Artist's Comments

A thousand battles have I fought
A Legacy of blood and gold
Yet, looking back, 'twas all for naught
Alas! Have I become so old?

'Though savage born, I've worn the suit
And pledged my sword in service bound
Of Soldier, Reaver, Prostitute
To Golden Throne and Jeweled Crown

Now years weigh heavy upon my breast
Too long I've trod this crimson earth
I turn my gaze now to the West
Unto the city of my birth

'Tis here, before eternal waves
I lay me down on distant shore
Embrace me now, O End Of Days
Let this world trouble me no more

Life's Hourglass now drained of sand
No more to laugh, nor sing, nor weep
Commend my Spirit into Thy Hands
A final breath; Eternal sleep

as always your work amazes me.

The detail alone in this is amazing. I love that night sky (well suns setting sky,) but indeed very very beautiful

You ability to paint animals is awesome. I can't do a realistic horse to save my life. and well EVERYTHING IN THIS.. all of it.. LOVE

before I read the poem in the description the only thing that ran thru my mind was

And then he rode into the night Towards that eerie distant light
That seemed to charm him
Until he came to a road that Disappeared beyond the last horizon
He knew there'd be no way back
Once he had vanished in the Blackness of Infinity
And so he gathered all his strength
Not to descend into the valley of death Into the valley of death

but thats the Ayreon fan in me =3

Love it as always +fav

Life is like The lottery. Some people never hit the numbers, and grow bitter. Some people hit some of the numbers, and become a slave to the system. And people that hit all the numbers are better off, but every hates em afterwards. - Rurik

Beautiful. It reminds me of H.P. Lovecrafts depiction of Cephalis or Sarnath in its prime. Exquisite, simply exquisite! :wow:

Awesome night painting!I like the purple, blue and red you used in this work. They go really well with each other.Although this is a sad painting,it still gives a feeling of peace and serenity, just like what the poem portrayed.

life isn't like a box of chocolates...it's more like a jar of jalapenos. what you do today might burn your ass tomorrow.
:iconjust-joking:
is this done in pastel ot colored pencils? I like the colour choices, such a beautiful interpretation to the poem;)

:frail: "lovehurts" but "always somewhere" there's "stairway to heaven" :frail:

How beautiful and solemn. I like the way it looks dark, yet so bright and full of light at the same time. The horse and rider both seem so haggard and worn out, like they've suffered through quite a bit. I like the poem equally. :)

wow this is really awsome! you always know just what colors to use to fit the mood :aww:

We were givin two hands to hold, two eyes to see, two legs to walk, two ears to listen.
But why just one heart? Because the other one was given to someone else to find. :rose:
